Asian markets plummet as US bonds yields surge

Markets in the Asia-Pacific plunged in afternoon trading on Thursday as investors digested surging bond yields in the United States.

The Nikkei 225 ended the session 2.13% lower. The dollar added 0.12% against the yen to sell for 107.1145 at 7:26 am CET.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 2.25% at 7:26 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite slid 2.02% at the same time and the Shenzhen Composite tumbled 2.35% at 7:13 am CET.

In South Korea, the Kospi fell 1.18% at 7:28, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.84% at the end of the session.
