WHO: AstraZeneca to give 150M vaccine doses to COVAX

Friday, 22. January 2021 18:25

The World Health Organization (WHO) expects that COVAX, its global vaccine distribution facility, will have access to 150 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference on Friday.

Tedros added that he thinks the doses will be available for distribution in the first quarter of the year, pending WHO emergency use listing. He stressed that the WHO now expects COVAX to start delivering vaccines in February and it should deliver up to 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021.

The comments from the WHO came as Pfizer also announced it is joining COVAX and despite reports that both Pfizer and AstraZeneca are falling behind with vaccine production.
