US extends gains premarket, Dow soars more than 200 pts

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States extended their premarket gains on Tuesday, ahead of the week's first trading session, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising more than 220 points.

The traders awaited former Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen's speech before the US Senate, scheduled for delivery less than an hour into the session. According to reports, Yellen will stress the importance of additional stimulus in combating the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and preventing a longer recession.

The Dow Jones jumped 0.71% or 221 points at 7:56 am ET, while the Nasdaq 100 went up by 0.87% at the same time. The S&P 500 concurrently gained 0.75%. The euro strengthened 0.41% versus the dollar, selling for 1.21268 at 7:58 am ET.
