Wall Street closes lower as earnings season kicks off

Shares on Wall Street closed in the red on Friday as corporate earnings season kicked off earlier in the day. Banking giants Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo reported their results before the opening bell today.

Meanwhile, investors assessed incoming President Joe Biden's economic stimulus plan worth $1.9 trillion, which is also set to conclude $1,400 in direct stimulus checks.

The Dow Jones fell 177 points or 0.57% at the close as Dow, Inc. led the losses. The S&P 500 lost 0.72% with Enphase Energy plunged 8.73%. The Nasdaq 100 sank 0.73% at the end of trading; Peloton was the weakest performer, dropping 4.50%.
