Europe finishes higher on COVID-19 treatment progress

Equities on major European stock markets closed Monday's session in the green territory as investors focus on developments in building a vaccine against coronavirus.

Russian Gamaleya Institute is set to start phase three trials for its COVID-19 vaccine in August, while the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given a Fast Track designation for two vaccines against coronavirus developed by BioNTech SE and Pfizer Inc.

The DAX gained 1.38% at the closing bell with Wirecard jumping nearly 5%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 ended the session going up by 1.48% as Fresnillo Plc added over 6% and the CAC 40 surged 1.81% at the same time led by Arcelormittal's growth that topped 5%.

The euro ticked 0.55% higher against the dollar, changing hands for 1.13614 at 5:28 pm CET.
