Deutsche Bank won't rule out buying embattled electronic-payments company Wirecard AG or some of its assets on Friday.

"We are one of the largest banks in payment transactions worldwide. So if there are opportunities here to strengthen ourselves, we will look into them,” Deutsche Bank's Chief Transformation Officer Fabrizio Campelli told Handelsblatt. Such a transaction would need to "make sense" both to Deutsche Bank and its shareholders, he added.

Earlier this week, Deutsche Bank said it is in talks with regulators to rescue Wirecard Bank as its parent company collapsed into insolvency. "We are in principle prepared to provide this support in the context of a continuation of business operations if such assistance should become necessary," Germany’s largest lender said.
