Mobile operator O2 issued a so-called "letter before complaint" that tells United Kingdom's communications regulator Ofcom that not all its concerns have been answered ahead of the 5G spectrum auction, a report said on Monday, meaning the 5g rollout could be postponed until 2021 or even 2022.

According to people with knowledge of the matter, O2 is not satisfied with a technical issue on the way the frequences are to be distributed. Currently, Ofcom is planning to have fragmented sequences slots while O2 wants them contiguous, according to FT.

The next sale of airwaves for 5G networks was supposed to take place in late 2020.
