A person treated for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died in Padua, a city in northern Italy, local media reported.

The patient, who was 78 years old, is the second coronavirus victim in Europe, after France reported last week that an elderly Chinese tourist had passed away as a result of the disease. Authorities in northern Italy have asked people to stay at their homes, canceling all public gatherings and events.

There are 20 people that have been confirmed as infected by the novel coronavirus in Italy, according to the latest reports.
