Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to win the general elections, exit polls suggested on Sunday after the seventh and last phase of voting ended earlier today. Modi's ruling alliance is expected to win around 350 seats in parliament, out of the total of 545 seats. The ruling party needs to secure at least 272 seats.

Despite harsh criticism for the lack of job openings and weak farm prices, the country's prime minister managed to increase his ratings after vowing to boost India's national security following the increasing tensions with neighboring Pakistan.

Over 900 million people are eligible to vote in the world's second most populous country. The votes are expected to be counted on Thursday.
