Vodafone Ltd and Telefonica UK Ltd announced they entered a non-binding agreement to "strengthen their existing network sharing partnership" in the United Kingdom.

The companies said they were looking at extending their current network sharing agreement to include a 5G network. Further, the two telecommunications providers were looking into selling CTIL, a joint venture which manages their network sites, in order to "empower the company to take an enhanced role in the operation of the passive infrastructure, improve the efficiency of its operations and pursue opportunities to add further third-party tenants to the towers."

"We believe that these plans will generate significant benefits for our business and our customers as we move into the digital era of connected devices, appliances and systems on a mass scale," CEO of Vodafone UK Nick Jeffery said, while Telefonica UK's chief executive Mark Evans expressed his "excitement at the potential of these plans to meet the future needs of our customers while delivering value for our business."
