US closes higher amid relief bill optimism

Major stock market indexes in the United States were higher at the end of the session on Thursday as the traders digested the news on the COVID-19 relief front.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer unveiled earlier today that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agreed to restart the talks on the fourth installment of the coronavirus stimulus, helping the investors shrug off some of the worries caused by the numbers of both COVID cases and deaths attributed to the virus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.15% as the session came to a close with Salesforce.com surging 2.91%. The Nasdaq 100 jumped 0.76% at the closing bell as Fiserv, Inc. soared 4.68%. The S&P 500 advanced by 0.39% at the end of the session. The best performer on the index was L Brands which skyrocketed 17.7%. The euro strengthened by 0.20% compared to the dollar, selling for 1.18769 at 3:59 pm ET.
