Russia's Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu said on Tuesday that the situation at the border shared between Russia and Belarus remains tense, as NATO continues strengthening its military presence in the area.

"In light of the emerging military and political situation in the region, and new challenges and threats, chiefly related to the international terrorism, the Russian Defense Ministry sees guaranteeing the military security of the Union State as a priority task," Shoygu told Russian and Belarusian military.

Meanwhile, anti-government protests in Belarus continue, with people calling for a general strike against President Alexander Lukashenko. While the West urges Lukashenko to stop violating democratic principles, Belarus' allies insist that protests have been funded by foreign actors.
