Asia mostly lower amid COVID-19 worries

Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly lower on Friday as investors' worries about the coronavirus continued to mount amid spikes in cases around the world. The daily number of new infections at a global level reached a new high in the past 24 hours as nearly 400,000 new cases were registered, with countries including Germany and France posting record daily jumps.

The Nikkei 225 declined 0.37% at 7:17 am CET and South Korea's Kospi dropped 1.04% at 7:21 am CET.

In China, the Shanghai Composite was down 0.04% at 7:22 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite slid 0.84% at 7:04 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.54% at the end of the session.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed 0.95% at 7:19 am CET.

The dollar lost 0.17% against the yen to go for 105.2610 at 7:18 am CET.
