Amazon says over 19,000 of its workers had COVID-19

Thursday, 01. October 2020 23:54 Inc reported a total of 19,816 people employed at the company testing positive for the coronavirus since the start of the outbreak.

"This information would be more powerful if there were similar data from other major employers to compare it to," the online retailer said, urging other US companies to follow suit as it would be uselul for federal states looking to lift virus restrictions and bring people back to work.

Commenting on the data, Amazon claimed the number is lower than expected when compared to the infection rate of the general population as the company and its subsidiary Whole Foods Market have roughly 1.37 million workers in total.

Amazon's stocks went down by 0.24% in the after-hours trading after the publication, selling for $3,213.60 per share.
