Asian stocks drop on COVID-19 worries

Asian markets extended losses in afternoon trading on Friday as concerns about spikes in coronavirus cases continued to weigh on stocks. The United States once again reported a record daily increase in registered infections as the disease showed no sign of slowing down in the most affected country.

The Nikkei 225 fell 0.70% at 7:11 am CET. The dollar lost 0.24% against the yen to sell for 106.942 at the same time.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng plunged 1.76% at 7:12 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite dropped 1.33% at the same time and the Shenzhen Composite decreased 0.10% at 7:01 am CET.

In South Korea, the Kospi slid 0.98% at 7:14 am CET, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.53% at the same time.
