Dow plunges 200 points amid COVID-19 fears

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted on Thursday after trading flat at the session's opening bell amid the fears of the COVID-19 second wave, and possible implications it might have for the economy. United States Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin warned that the special nature of the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic might make the traditional economic models less useful.

The Dow Jones dropped by 0.81% or 233 points at 10:37 am ET, with the S&P 500 following suit and losing 0.39% at the same time. Concurrently, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.52%.

The euro dipped 0.13% against the dollar to sell for $1.13154 at 10:40 am ET.
