Alphabet Inc's Google announced on Monday it would no longer process and provide user data to the authorities of Hong Kong over concerns the recently passed national security law will violate human rights in China's special administrative region.

"Last Wednesday, when the law took effect, we paused production on any new data requests from Hong Kong authorities, and we'll continue to review the details of the new law," the tech giant stated.

Earlier in the day, Twitter, Facebook, and its subsidiary WhatsApp all made similar statements.
