The United States White House is examining the possibility of intervening in the private sector's decision-making process regarding 5G technology, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing sources with knowledge of the situation.

The government will reportedly attempt to stimulate private companies from the US to acquire 5G equipment from Ericsson or Nokia Corporation and exclude Huawei from the process. The European tech firms would be provided from tax breaks and export-bank financing, according to one of the proposals being discussed by the Trump administration.

Over the past few years, Huawei had been heavily critized and accused of tech "espionage" by the US government.
