Google to offer checking accounts in 2020

Google is getting ready to launch checking accounts next year in partnership with Citigroup, the company told the Wall Street Journal.

"Our approach is going to be to partner deeply with banks and the financial system. It may be the slightly longer path, but it’s more sustainable," Google executive Caesar Sengupta said in an interview released on Wednesday.

Google is the latest tech giant to offer financial services to consumers. Earlier this year, Apple rolled out its credit card, while Facebook has been developing its own digital currency.
