American Oversight said on Wednesday said that it managed to "crack... the administration’s stonewall" as its emergency motion under the Freedom of Information Act was passed. Judge Christopher Cooper of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia granted the request from the ethics watchdog, ordering the Department of State to release records related to the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump including correspondence and communications between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the president's lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

Among the sought documents are Giuliani's activities regarding Ukraine and those covering the recall of Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch. The judge said the representatives of the State Department and American Oversight first need to narrow the scope to relevant files and that they must be released within 30 days.

The nongovernmental organization slammed Pompeo for refusing to reveal the documentation and vowed to press on with complaints.
