Pound jumps against dollar amid Brexit news

The British pound shot up to its highest against the US dollar since May on Monday amid some positive signals for the UK government.

Earlier, Democratic Unionist Party MP Jim Shannon said the DUP would not support a customs union despite reports the party is ready to unite with Labour on the proposal, which would sabotage the government's Brexit deal.

"We are clear where we stand on the customs union as something that we cannot support and will not support, and I believe that that will be the stance we will have later on when we see the wording," Shannon stated according to Reuters.

Sterling jumped 0.23% against the greenback at 10:31 am CET, buying 1.30055.
