Pound falls on fears UK Parl't will reject Brexit deal

The pound turned negative against other major currencies on Thursday on fears the United Kingdom Parliament will reject the Brexit agreement negotiated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson after the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) confirmed it will vote against the deal on Saturday. Earlier, Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn noted his party will also oppose the agreement.

Earlier in the day, the British currency soared to five-month highs after the UK and the European Union announced they reached a new withdrawal agreement with a different solution to the Irish border issue.

Sterling lost 0.33% against the dollar to sell for 1.27862 at 2:39 pm CET and it declined 0.32% compared to the yen to change hands for 139.045 at 2:40 pm CET. The euro jumped 0.71% against the pound to go for 0.86910 at 2:40 pm CET.
