Schiff: Impeachment documents to be published

The head of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence responded to criticism from Republicans with a move seemingly increasing transparency of the ongoing impeachment investigation targeting United States President Donald Trump. The panel's Chairman Adam Schiff wrote that transcripts from witness hearings would be made public with the exception of those which could still disturb the process and classified or sensitive details.

The California Democrat defended the effectiveness of the approach with closed door interviews, saying it prevents people from getting their stories consistent. "It is of paramount importance to ensure that witnesses cannot coordinate their testimony with one another to match their description of events, or potentially conceal the truth," he wrote.

The Grand Old Party in the lower chamber of the US Congress earlier expressed the intention to condemn Schiff in a censure procedure.
