The Nikkei added 1.02% at 7:42 am CET. The US dollar traded flat against the Japanese yen, changing hands for 108.1090.

The Hang Seng in Hong Kong was up 0.64% at 7:44 am CET.

The S&P/ASX 200 in Australia traded 0.25% in the green at 7:45 am CET.

Markets in mainland China and South Korea were closed for holidays.
