Wall Street ends day of trading with losses

United States markets closed lower on Tuesday after President Donald Trump said that any Iranian attack would be met with overwhelming force, stressing that it could even mean "obliteration in some areas." Meanwhile, a senior official in the US government stated that reopening of trade negotiations will be the main goal of the upcoming meeting between Trump and his counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Japan later in the week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the trading session 0.67% below the flat line. Microsoft closed as the worst trading stock, 3.16% lower. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.70% at the closing bell with Adobe Inc. closing as the worst performer, down 3.97%. The S&P 500 was down 0.95% at market close, led by AbbVie Inc. losses of 16.25%.

The euro decreased by 0.26% against the dollar, to change hands for 1.1368 at 4:01 pm ET.
