Trump thinks dollar is too strong against euro - official

Tuesday, 25. June 2019 19:44

A senior official of the administration of United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the president thinks the dollar is too strong and that the euro is too weak. The unnamed official added that the US Federal Reserve could have eased the strength of the dollar and increased the strength of the euro if it had cut interest rates.

Last week, the US president said that European Central Bank President Mario Draghi's comments were "unfair" to the US as indications the ECB will cut rates, "making it unfairly easier for them to compete against the USA."

The euro traded 0.19% lower against the dollar at 1:40 pm ET to go for 1.13769. The euro remains 1.56% higher against the greenback in the past month, but 0.67% lower than the US currency since January.
