Stocks in the United States fell late on Thursday amid reports that the trade negotiations between Washington and Beijing have stalled. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down over 100 points briefly following the news, despite trading in the positive territory earlier in the session. Citing two sources with knowledge on the status of the negotiations, CNBC reported that the scheduling of the next round of talks is still in progress.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated earlier this week that he is planning a trip to China "soon" for the next round of talks, stressing that the negotiations wil continue. The government in Beijing, however, insisted that it had no information on any plans regarding a visit by the US delegation.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.37% at 3:15 pm ET. The worst performer on the index was Dow Inc., which lost 4.16% at 3:15 pm ET. The Nasdaq 100 fell 0.94% at 3:15 pm ET with Baidu Inc. plunging 17.06% at 3:16 pm ET. The S&P 500 dropped 0.61% at 3:16 pm ET. The euro fell 0.11% against the dollar, changing hands for 1.1161 at 3:17 pm ET.
