European markets open higher amid earnings

Major stock markets in Europe opened in the green on Thursday as investors digested a string of corporate earnings. AstraZeneca, Credit Suisse and Volkswagen are just some of the companies that posted results before the bell. On the data front, market watchers are awaiting German unemployment data as well as Eurozone consumer confidence figures.

The FTSE 100 added 0.15% at 9:00 am CET. Anglo American and Shell jumped more than 3% after posting better-than-expected results.

The DAX increased 0.20% at 9:02 am CET with Infineon, up 1.91%, leading the gains.

The CAC 40 rose 0.57% at 9:00 am CET. The best performer was Danone, whose shares rallied 5.14%, followed by Airbus, which climbed 4.23% on an upbeat earnings report.

The euro added 0.06% against the dollar to sell for 1.18514 at 8:58 am CET and the pound gained 0.19% compared to the US currency to go for 1.39297 at the same time.
