BMW Group extended its contract to buy aluminum from Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the companies announced on Monday. In particular, BMW will now be purchasing 43,000 tonnes of EGA's CelestiAL aluminum per year which is melted using solar power. EGA and BMW added the deal was "worth a three-digit million-euro sum," without disclosing the exact amount.

Using aluminum melted by solar power, BMW will reduce its CO2 emissions by 222,000 tonnes annually.

"In EGA, we have found a strong partner who values sustainable development just as much as we do. It is a special honor for us to be the first customer to receive aluminum produced using solar electricity. Aluminum plays an important role in e-mobility and using sustainably produced aluminum is tremendously important to our company," BMW AG Board member, Dr. Andreas Wendt, stated.
