British multinational engineering company Rolls-Royce Holdings said on Tuesday it has discovered signs of wear on the blades in the intermediate pressure compressor of a "small number of Trent XWB engines that have been in service for four to five years." Trent XWB large engines are used for powering the A350 widebody plane.

According to the statement, there are approximately 800 Trent XWB engines in service, with 100 older than four years.

One or two blades of 20 engines are reported damaged during a routine inspection but the company said that it doesn’t "expect this issue to create significant customer disruption or material annual cost."
