Europe opens mostly lower on earnings, data

Major European stock markets opened mostly lower on Thursday as traders focus on the performance of major companies, such as AstraZeneca, Airbus, Renault, Shell, and Volkswagen, in the second quarter of the year. The reports on Germany's gross domestic product (GDP) in the second trimester of 2020, as well as on its unemployment rates and consumer price index (CPI) for July are also expected to be released later in the day.

The DAX lost 0.31% at the opening, with Wirecard AG going down by 7.19%. At the same moment, the FTSE 100 rose by 0.09% as Rentokil Initial PLC gained 4.92%, while the CAC 40 decreased by 0.16%, with Unibail-Rodamco-WE descending 4.71%.

The euro declined by 0.31% in comparison to the dollar, with the exchange rate of $1.17556 at 8:58 am CET. At the same time, the pound sterling fell by 0.35% to the greenback to sell for $1.29528.
