Le Maire calls on US to remove EU tariffs

The United States should remove tariffs on European imports now that Airbus SE agreed to amend government contracts according to the World Trade Organization's requests, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Friday.

European Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan urged Washington to "immediately" lift sanctions on the goods coming from the bloc, warning that Brussels will implement its own levies if the US fails to do so.

Targetted products include French wine, whose exports to the US dropped by a third after the introduction of tariffs in October 2019. In addition, the Trump administration implemented an additional €1.1 billion worth of levies on French imports over the country's digital tax, albeit the measure will go into effect in 2021.
