European Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan insisted on Friday that the United States should "immediately" lift sanctions imposed on Airbus SE last fall.

"In the absence of a settlement, the European Union will be ready to fully avail itself of its own sanction rights," Hogan continued. Based on WTO authorizations, the EU will be able to utilize its right if the US decides against removing duties on $7.5 billion worth of European exports.

Airbus also commented on the issue earlier in the day, saying that the airline has "taken the final step" to resolve WTO dispute between the US and the EU regarding subsidies.
