Europe closes mostly higher amid EU recovery fund talks

Major European stock markets closed mostly higher on Friday amid the European Union's meeting regarding the coronavirus pandemic recovery fund. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed optimism on the matter, while Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria said they don't expect the deal to be reached soon.

The DAX traded 0.47% higher at the close as Daimler AG increased by 4.42%. The FTSE 100 rose by 0.63% with Fresnillo PLC gaining 4.45%. On the other hand, the CAC 40 declined by 0.36% as Accor decreased by 2.23%.

The euro went up by 0.43% compared to the dollar to sell for $1.14328 at 5:27 pm CET. At the same time, the pound sterling lost 0.12% to the greenback, with the exchange rate of $1.25386.
