Pharmaceutical giant Sanofi S.A. will sack between 1370 and 1680 people in Europe, including up to 600 layoffs in France, the country's General Labour Confederation told BFM TV on Friday.

President of Sanofi France, Olivier Bogillot, said that this move came as part of a reorganization that corresponds to a "new strategy," and is not related to the coronavirus outbreak.

The departure plan was also presented to the European social partners. Commenting on the company's decision, Bogillot said that layoffs were based "exclusively voluntarily" and will last for three years.
