Wall Street closes mixed as US sanctions Chinese entities

Wall Street closed mixed on Friday as tensions between the United States and China continued to rise, with Washigton announcing new sanctions on Chinese entities as Beijing prepares to adopt a new law on national security that would essentially ban protests in Hong Kong.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 0.04% in the red, with Chevron declining 1.91% as the index' worst performer. The Nasdaq 100 increased 0.38% as Splunk surged 12.73%. The S&P 500 finished 0.24% higher, led by Coty which jumped 12.61%.

Th euro went for 1.09031against the dollar at 4:02 pm ET as it fell 0.44%.
