US markets open in red as investors wait for data

Markets in the United States opened mostly in red on Thursday as investors are waiting for some data to be released. Markit Economics will be reporting on its Purchasing Managers’ Index while the National Association of Realtors is releasing the existing home sales data. The speech of the Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is also awaited. Meanwhile, minutes released from the Federal Reserve’s April meeting revealed policymakers are concerned about the long-term effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy.

The Dow Jones fell 0.12% at 9:30 am ET. The worst performer was 3M, whose stock dipped 1.41% at 9:34 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was down 0.01% at the same time but soon after opening went to green rising 0.01 at 9:33 am ET. Expedia Group was down by 3.69% at 9:49 am ET. The S&P 500 went down 0.08% at 9:30 am ET. Under Armour Inc plunged 6.30% at 9:35 am ET.

The euro stood flat against the dollar to sell for 1.09828 at 9:33 am ET.
