General Electric Co. is currently in talks with Airbus SE to design and sell an engine variant for Airbus' A330neo airliner, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

GE, which manufactures engines for Boeing Co. as well, reportedly came to the decision after the American aerospace giant decided to cut down the production of the 787 Dreamliner. The company is now pitching to make a variant of the same Dreamliner engine for the A330neo, people close to the matter said to the newspaper.

The conglomerate refused to comment on the specific issues while telling the WSJ it's "continuously working to identify opportunities to add value for its customers and to assess introduction of new technologies into its existing engines".
