Airbus 'deeply regrets' US tariff hike

Airbus "deeply regrets" the decision made by United States Trade Representative to increase tariffs on aircraft imports from the European Union, the planemaker said in a statement on Saturday.

"USTR’s decision to impose tariffs further escalates trade tensions between the US and the EU, thereby creating more instability for US airlines that are already suffering from a shortage of aircraft," the company said, adding that the cost of levies will ultimately have to be covered by US air carriers and people using aviation services. "This is regrettable," the statement added.

As of March 18, the tariffs on aircraft imports are to jump from 10 to 15%.
