Google and a number of news publications are in negotiations over the tech giant's premium news product that aims to pay publishers for the content they publish exclusively for Google, a Wall Street Journal report claimed on Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Most of the news publications Google is in talks with are in Europe, the report added, but also noted that the negotiations are at very early stages and no information was given on financial terms of the potential deals.

The Alphabet subsidiary's deals talk with news publishers comes as Facebook has been reaching agreements with a number of large publications for their content that is set to be a part of its future news tab.
