Google completes Looker acquisition after CMA approval

Google LLC announced on Thursday it completed the 2.6 billion acquisition of Looker Data Sciences Inc. following the transaction's approval by the United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The antitrust watchdog said it did not expect the merger would result in increased prices or reductions in the quality of the services in the data analytics industry.

In addition, CMA said while Alphabet's subsidiary may "make it difficult for rivals to access the Google-generated data they need from online advertising and web analytics services, there was no strong evidence they would have the incentive to do this."
