US ITC probing Google over patent infringement

The United States International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday it launched an investigation into certain Google's audio players and their components after receiving a complaint from Sonos Inc. about patent infringement.

"The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States and sale of certain audio players and controllers, components thereof, and products containing the same that infringe patents asserted by the complainant. The complainant requests that the USITC issue a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders," the ITC stated.

The trade commission added that the case will be assigned to one of its administrative law judges, who will make an initial determination if Google violated the tariff act. The final ruling on the matter will be made "at the earliest practicable time," the ITC noted and added it will set a target date for completing the probe within 45 days of the start of the investigation.
