Google temporarily closes China offices over coronavirus

Google confirmed on Wednesday that it is temporarily closing all of its offices in China, including those in Hong Kong and Taiwan, due to concerns over the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.

According to a spokesman for the tech giant, Google also imposed restrictions on business trips to mainland China and Hong Kong and advised staff that is already in China to leave the country as soon as possible and work from home for a couple of weeks.

The move comes as more and more companies are deciding to suspend or reduce their China operations as the virus, which has infected over 6,000 and killed 133 people, continues to spread. Starbucks, Apple, Ikea, Foxconn, Toyota, McDonald's and Disney are just some of the firms which introduced measures in response to the disease outbreak.
