AI needs regulation - Google CEO

Alphabet Inc.'s and Google llc's CEO Sundar Pichai stated on Monday that "there is no question" that artificial intelligence (AI) "needs to be regulated."

He named "deep fakes" and facial recognition as the most prominent issues related to AI. All sides involved with the AI need to make sure that "technology is harnessed for good and available to everyone," Pichai said at the conference held in Brussels ahead of AI regulation plans the European Commission is expected to reveal next month.

Pichai also commended the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as a good starting point for AI regulation. He also noted that future trade agreements need to include technology as he considers China to become a major developer of AI.
