European stocks traded mostly higher at the closing bell on Wednesday with all eyes on the United Kingdom elections scheduled for Thursday. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asserted that the election race between Tory and Labour "couldn't be tighter," even though the latest poll said that his party has a 9% advantage over the biggest rivals.

Meanwhile, European Union's Chief Brexit Negotiator Michel Barnier reportedly claimed that the Brexit trade deal can't be sealed by 2021.

The DAX closed with the gains, increasing 0.64% with E.ON surging nearly 3%. The CAC 40 in Paris finished Wednesday's session adding 0.26% as Sodexo led the way, jumping over 2%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 traded flat at the closing bell, despite the fact Jd Sports Fashion lost almost 9%.

The euro was virtually unchanged against the dollar to go for 1.10948 at 5:30 pm CET.
