European equities closed with gains on Friday after Beijing struck a more conciliatory tone in the lengthy trade dispute with the United States. Earlier in the day, China said it hopes to meet the US "halfway" in trade negotiations after introducing retaliatory tariffs on American goods last week.

Meanwhile, investors were handed a flash estimate of annual inflation in the Eurozone, expected to stand at 1% in August.

The DAX gained 0.85% at the close led higher by strong gains in Vonovia and Deutsche Boerse. The CAC 40 added 0.35% as Saint Gobain climbed over 2%. In London, the FTSE 100 closed 0.32% in the green; NMC Health topped the chart as it surged 6.87%.

The euro dipped 0.60% against the dollar at 5:34 pm CET, buying 1.09922.
