Europe closes higher after data

Major stock markets in Europe ended the Wednesday's trading session higher following the release of several data reports. European producer prices and retail sales were down, while the private sector expanded slightly. Meanwhile, the service sector activity grew both in the United Kingdom and Germany.

In business news, ArcelorMittal announced it was temporarily laying off 1,400 workers for a period of 13 weeks at its Taranto plant. BT Group said it will reduce the number of its offices in the United Kingdom from 300 to 30 in accordance with its latest consolidation plan.

The FTSE 100 was up 0.08 % at the closing bell, with Sage Group growing 3.05%. The DAX ended 0.09% in the green hoisted by Wirecard AG's 2.51% rise. The CAC 40 was 0.41% higher in France at the end of the day as ENGIE increased 2.29%.

The euro was flat against the dollar, exchanging for $1.12480 at 5:29 pm CET, while the pound rose 0.11% to $1.27095.
