Frankfurt Airport resumes flights following drone sighting

Frankfurt Airport resumed flight operations on Thursday morning after a drone was spotted earlier in the day, media reported.

The operator of Germany's busiest airport Fraport confirmed that flights had resumed after having previously been halted for an hour on Thursday morning. An airport spokesman said that around 70 flights were canceled due to the drone sighting. Police have launched an investigation using a helicopter to determine the cause of the disturbance but did not provide any further details.

The incident follows a spate of drone sightings at major airports in recent months. Frankfurt Airport was already previously closed once before in March for around half an hour after reports of drone sightings. Similar reports have also prompted the temporary closures of airports in Dublin, New Jersey and London since the beginning of the year.
