The European Commission announced on Wednesday that the acquisition of Uniper France SAS by the Czech firm Energeticky a Prumyslovy Holding (EPH), owned by billionaire investor Daniel Kretinsky, can proceed, as it doesn't jeopardize competition because the activities of the companies don't overlap.

Uniper France is an energy supplier, while EPH mines lignite, produces electricity and provides heating, as well as transport, distribution, stocking and supplying of gas, with no operations in France, the commission noted.

The two companies have not disclosed the value of the acquisition deal.
