Wall Street closes lower, data, trade talks in focus

Markets in the United States closed in the red on Thursday as investors digested news on US economic data, amid growing optimism regarding trade talks between Washington and Beijing. The new batch of US data showed relatively weak durable goods orders as well as underperforming initial jobless claims figures. Meanwhile, Tesla Inc.'s shares declined earlier today after the American magazine Consumer Reports announced it no longer recommends Model 3 due to reliability issues.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.39% at the closing bell, Microsoft led the losses, dropping 1.85% The Nasdaq 100 was 0.38% lower at the end of trading, as Biogen Inc. declined 4.17% The S&P declined 0.35% at the end of the session. TechnipFMC plummeted 7.89%

The euro lost 0.04% against the greenback, to change hands for 1.1334 at 4:19 pm ET.
